‘Wild Things’ mixed-media painting on paper, antique oak frame.

£280.00

This prize winning painting was exhibited as part of ‘The Black Shuck’ festival in The Bell Gallery, Bungay. A lot of my work is influenced by the history and folklore of East Anglia. Being part of such an idiosyncratic event was a dream.

‘Wild Things’ - In 1167 a strange, hairy, feral man washed up on the Suffolk coast. Unsuccessful attempts were made to tame this unfortunate creature at Orford Castle. Dubbed the Wild Man of Orford, his subsequent fate remains shrouded in mystery.

The marginalia surrounding my vision of the Wild Man includes Black Shuck; an old 17th century shoe and a skull to protect against evil demonic influences. The Essex Serpent/Henham Dragon is included because it’s my neighbourhood folkloric monster. In addition, I’ve added two of my own lucky talismans - snails and He-Man’s ‘Power’ sword.

40 x 53cm, mixed-media painting on paper, in an antique oak frame.

The glass in the frame is original/antique. I can arrange shipping and package it extremely carefully in many many layers…

If you’d like the piece unframed I can arrange this too.
